Do You Know How to Crate Train a Puppy?

By Neil Williamson

After you successfully potty train your pup, it’s not time to crate train them. When you crate train a puppy, remember that you are introducing a home for the mutt. With that in mind, you might want to build or create a crate that’s almost the same of his favorite hangout. That’s where your observation skills come in. No matter how cozy and beautiful the crate is, your dog will still prefer to stay in a place where the dog feels secured.

You can slowly introduce the crate to your puppy by placing food inside the crate of the puppy. There are owners who successfully crate train a puppy by just placing treats inside them. The dog will notice that a crate is one place that has lots of food and it’s also a perfect place to stay. You can also crate train a puppy like a treasure hunt. The puppies will go looking for the food they are introduced in and they will always find it in their crate. Before you know it, they will be staying in the crate more and more.

When you crate train a puppy, it’s the best opportunity to introduce better manner and limit your dogs about certain actions. As of this stage, all you have taught your pup is how to urinate and poop properly. Crate training is a great way to teach discipline. If your dog is not behaving properly, you can tell them to go to their crate. It’s a great way to control them and through time, the dogs can just look for the place themselves.

Another good thing when you have successfully crate train a puppy is you’ll be able to give them a healthier environment. You can give them a cozier place compared to their traditional refuge. Cleaning up is also a breeze when you crate train a puppy. It’s a natural trait for a dog to clean up their surroundings especially their special place of refuge. They will never spoil this place and would rather urinate and poop in somewhere else. That’s why you have to partner the crate with a litter box. This litter box should be as much as possible a replica of their favorite spot. You don’t have to place the litter box 24 hours with the crate, it’s just enough that you place them with the litter box at night when the house is locked and they can’t just go out to relieve themselves.
