Another good thing when you have successfully crate train a puppy is you’ll be able to give them a healthier environment. You can give them a cozier place compared to their traditional refuge. Cleaning up is also a breeze when you crate train a puppy. It’s a natural trait for a dog to clean up their surroundings especially their special place of refuge. They will never spoil this place and would rather urinate and poop in somewhere else. That’s why you have to partner the crate with a litter box. This litter box should be as much as possible a replica of their favorite spot. You don’t have to place the litter box 24 hours with the crate, it’s just enough that you place them with the litter box at night when the house is locked and they can’t just go out to relieve themselves.

By Neil Williamson

You are planning to bring home a puppy through adoption. It’s a very cute mutt that you wanted to keep him for good. But before you go ahead and bring the mutt home, you need to know how to treat a puppy first.

There are basically four things you have to remember on how to treat a puppy: food, vaccination, training and their proper place in the family.

If you have decided to bring a puppy home, you should give them food that is fit for their age. There are different kids of dog foods and they are divided into age groups. Since the puppy is very sensitive to the hardness of the food, you have to give them a food that’s fitting for them. Feed them thrice a day and control their food. Obesity is one of the biggest problems of dogs so we need to look out for their eating habits. When they grow older, they should be fed only twice a day.

The next stage on how to treat a puppy is proper vaccination. You should give mutt complete shots to ensure protection against various dog related diseases. This will take time and they will make mistakes but you don’t have to shout at them or hit them. All you need to do is to be assertive with the word NO to remind them they have done something bad.

Lastly is their place in the family. We acknowledge that having a dog means having a new member of the family. However, if we know how to treat a puppy the relationship with your mutt should be a teacher student relationship. Dogs need someone to tell them what to do. Some may have the mind of their own but they would still depend on someone to take care of them. That’s why even though we love our dogs; we still have to be strict on them on the things they have to do. Otherwise, they will just force their way to do the things that they want.
